While out driving in the woods last week, I found myself stuck in mud up to the bumper. Being stranded 5 1/2 miles in the woods on a snowy afternoon is nobodies idea of a good day. With no other option but to walk out, I, along with a friend began the journey back to civilization. It was getting late and the rain was turning into snow. Through all my frustration, I kept wondering; "how in the world am I getting the truck out?"
After passing a few hunters and taking the opportunity to share my predicament and getting no response other than a few head shakes, we came across Kent. Seeing what looked like a couple of wet dogs, Kent asked how our day was going. Hopelessly sharing the story with him, he calmly said, "let's go check it out". We traveled the 3 1/2 miles back into the woods, finally coming to my half submerged truck. Without saying much, Kent climbed into the bed of his pickup and grabbed a shovel and tow chain. He handed me both implements and said go hook it up.
It took quite an effort just to find where to hook the chain since the truck was up to its bumper in mud and water. In some places the water was up over my knees, however it didn't matter because Kent was there for the rescue. Once the connection was made, with little effort the rescuer and his sidekick (4 Wheel Drive GMC pick-up) pulled my truck out of its' apparent tomb.
Two hours after I thought that I was in the worst situation, I was driving back to camp with a few good sermon illustrations. Not only did Kent not blink an eye at helping me out, he would not take any money for his efforts. All he said was, "just pay it forward". Not only was I ready to call him my new best friend, but it made me think about; "What would Amy Do". The same type of selfless assistance that Kent gave, is the same type of selfless help that Amy has exemplified throughout the short time I have known her, with this one difference. Amy would've jumped in the water and mud and have hooked up tow cable herself! That is the kind of 'selfless person" she is and I am grateful to be on her team. Thank you Amy for your continued love and support of so many. The prayers of our church are with you, Dave and Emily.
Blessings,
